TRAVELING TO JJP
There are four conventional travel options (not to be confused with the many unconventional options i.e. parachuting, kayaking, or swimming -- none of which we recommend) for getting to the conference
1.Taking BART without parking
(WE RECOMMEND THIS OPTION!!!)
2. Taking BART using BART parking – requires PURCHASING A LONG-TERM PARKING PERMIT
3. Flying to San Francisco Airport and taking BART
4. Driving and parking
1. Taking BART – without parking
Parking in San Francisco is very limited and very expensive. We recommend that you take BART to get to the conference.
Your best option is to arrange for someone to drop you off at the BART station nearest you and to pick you up on your return trip. If you choose to use BART station parking you will need to acquire a long term parking permit in advance or face receiving a $100.00 fine.
2. Taking BART using BART parking – requires PURCHASING A LONG-TERM PARKING PERMIT
There is a 24-hour weekday time limit on parking in all BART lots (see long-term parking for an exception to this rule). Vehicles left in BART parking facilities for more than 24 hours on weekdays will be subject to a $100.00 fine.
Long-term parking is an exception to the 24-hour time restriction at all East Bay BART stations with parking lots, except West Oakland. Parking in Long-term areas is $5.00 per day.
In addition to the Long-Term parking, the exception to the 24-hour limit at BART parking facilities is Extended Weekend parking. Extended Weekend rules are as follows:
Vehicles may be left for longer than 24 hours on weekends in all lots only if the vehicle begins the parking period on a Saturday. Vehicles parking on a Friday and staying through the weekend will need to pay for parking on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
For information on how to obtain a long-term parking permit go here or you can call (877)700-7275 Monday thru Friday 8 AM– 5 PM MST.
3. Taking BART from San Francisco Airport
Take AirTrain (the airport’s internal transit system) to the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) station at the San Francisco airport. AirTrain links to the BART station at the Garage G/BART station stop. The BART station is located on the G gates side of the International Terminal on Level 3, which is the Departures/Ticketing level.
Take BART from the airport to the Civic Center Station (about nine stations)
Walking directions from the Civic Center station to St Boniface
Exit the BART station through the 7 street and Market exit
Proceed down Market, crossing 7th Street
Stay on Market for one half block until you reach Jones Street
Make a left on Jones Street
Travel one block (up) on Jones Street to Golden Gate
Turn left onto Golden Gate
St Boniface will be half way down the block on your left side
4. Driving & Parking
If you will be driving to San Francisco to attend the Jesus Justice and Poverty Conference please use an online source for getting directions to St Boniface. St Boniface is located at 133 Golden Gate Ave, San Francisco CA 94102.
A word about parking. Neither the Jesus Justice and Poverty Conference nor St Boniface church can provide parking during the conference. Most streets in the immediate area have parking meters. Many spaces have a thirty or sixty minute time limit to encourage parking turnover. "Feeding the meter" repeatedly is illegal. Also, if the meter is broken, the parking time limit still applies. Meters are in operation on Saturdays in San Francisco.
Garage parking will average $20 - $25 per day. You may find some parking garage options in the area by going on line at the City of San Francisco web site for city operated garages. You can also do a Google search using the key words “San Francisco parking garages” for privately owned garages. In selecting a garage we recommend you do the following:
• Use Map Quest to determine if the garage is near our meeting location
• Make sure the garage will be open on Sunday when the conference ends
Follow these four tips before traveling on BART
A. Review the overall BART system
B. Locate the BART station nearest you
C. Know which train to take
D. Have the correct BART fare
A. Review the overall BART system
Visit the BART website for an overview of the BART system including the airport station. To view Civic Center station information including a local map select “Civic Center” in the drop down menu. Click on the link “Local Area Map of Civic Center Station”. We recommend you print this out and bring it with you.
B. Locate the BART station nearest you
You can receive custom directions from your front door to the station nearest you when you enter your address at the “Station Guide” under the Stations and Schedules tab at the BART website.

C. Know which train to take
If you are traveling on BART on Friday afternoon before 5 pm you will be able to catch a train that takes you directly to the Civic Center station in San Francisco, however, most BART lines are set up so you can catch a train that takes you part way to your destination and then requires you to transfer to another train at a pre-determined transfer station. If you are unfamiliar with the BART system we recommend that you take a direct train and not try to transfer.
Those traveling on the yellow line, originating from Pittsburg/Bay Point station should take the Millbrae bound train and get off at the Civic Center station. You will not need to transfer trains.
Those traveling on the orange line originating from Richmond station should take the Millbrae bound train and get off at the Civic Center station. You will not need to transfer trains.
Those traveling on the green line originating from Fremont station should take the Daly City bound train. You will not need to transfer trains.
Those traveling on the blue line originating from Dublin/Pleasanton should take the Daly City bound train and get off at the Civic Center station. You will not need to transfer trains.
D. Have the correct BART fare
All BART stations sell tickets through automatic ticket machines that accept nickels, dimes and quarters as well as $1, $5, $10 and $20 bills. Because BART machines will only give a maximum of $4.60 change we recommend that you not use a $20 bill. We strongly urge you to bring bills in small denominations (ones and fives ) totaling $15, to pay your round trip BART fare. Credit cards can also be used at Charge-A-Ticket (CAT) machines in all stations.
You can determine the exact cost of your trip by using the “Fare Calculator” under the Tickets tab at the BART web site.
BART tickets are like debit cards, each with a specific stored value. When you take a BART trip, your fare is deducted from the ticket automatically until the stored value is used up.
